Leaf Blowing Blessing

I have a dog. A dog that barks his head off if someone so much as thinks about going by our house.

Yesterday he was kinda barking. More like light ruffing. He was staring out the window at something. Of course I figured it was someone trying to break into the house.

I look outside and there’s my girl friend’s husband and their son with the trunk of their van open. What in the world? Why were they here?

Next I see his leaf blower. Are you serious? Have you LOOKED at my yard? There are like 3 bazillion leaves on the ground. The other half are still on the trees.

I opened the doors, still in my jammies, at 1:30pm (I didn’t expect company), and asked him what he was up to. I tried to convince him that he didn’t need to do it, but there was no deterring him.

IMG_3807And he chose today. Today of all days to come over. It’s 80+ degrees in MN when it was snowing last year! The poor guy was sweating by the time he was done, an hour and a half later.

I don’t know if he realizes that it takes me a couple days to rake the entire yard. No, I don’t do it all at once. Why would I complete a project on the same day? That would be the responsible thing to do.

IMG_3806 When I had to go run an errand I thanked him and his son for coming over to blow my leaves. He said he was going to come back another time and do a better job.

WHAT?

First of all, the guy probably left 4 leaves on my yard. Second of all, come back? Oh, I don’t think so! He has already blessed me by doing this huge project. As I was getting into the car he said, “Well what if we want to come back?” Sigh…what if they want to come back?

I want to give a huge shout out to the body of Christ for taking care of another family member. I dig ya K.B. & H.B.!

Now that is an awesome gift! I have a monster maple tree in my backyard and it drops leaves slowly beginning in late mid-late October and then it isnt until the end of November until they all come crashing down. Its out of control and by then we've had frost for sure and possibly snow. Makes for a wicked cleanup job. Will your friend's husband cross a few states and come to MI? :)

My neighborhood here is too new for many leaves... nice in the fall, but I could do with a bit more shade in the dead of summer! Up north, we lived on top of a mountain with more leaves than I knew what to do with... luckily, it was windy and we sat just so the big gusts would blow all the leaves back into the woods... the neighbors were so jealous!

What an awesome blessing. You should let him come back - just turn around and bless someone else!

I've always wanted to use one of those leaf blowers! hahaha, I'd never want to HAVE to do it as a chore or a job... but just to use it once would be awesome! ;)

That is terrific Mimi,
Leaf-blowing is not my forte either and a ton of back breaking work. That was a very special gift to get; ditto the occasional snow removal gift in the heart of winter.
Looking forward to more posts...

My husband has a leaf blower, and he loves it. While it's still a chore that has to be taken care of, he enjoys clearing the leaves much more than with a good ol' rake! And come to think of it, when I go to do it, he says he'll do it and takes it out of my hands...so maybe it's more fun than I realize!

This is such a great way to serve someone. It sounds like it would have taken you days to do all the leaves.

That's a wonderful gift! I love random acts of kindness!

I need a leaf blower. My little rake has been over-used and abused.

Oh, and I'm following your blog now, too!
