My Quiet Place

When the weather turns decent here in Minnesota (could be between April and June) I love sitting on my porch. It faces West so at night, when it quiets down, dinner is done, the boys are doing…whatever it is they’re doing, I love taking a book outside and just hanging out.

porchI’ve been known to sit out there until the wee hours of the night, book in hand, just enjoying the beauty, the quiet, the stillness. We’re out in the country and I love the swaying of the trees, the sound it makes as the wind passes through gently. The birds flying here and there. Squirrels running from tree to tree.

Adirondack chairI can watch the sun set over the trees and it’s always a spectacular sight. I never get tired of it. Once night comes, I have bug light bulbs in my porch lights and they keep the bugs at bay. I slather myself in bug spray because I want to hold on to those moments for as long as I can!

These nice days don’t last long here and I feel when I’m outside, I’m soaking it all in, hoping I can hold onto the memory as we slip into our cold weather again.

Mama’s Losin’ It

This weeks writing prompts I had to choose from:

Writing Prompts:

1.)    Write about a time you were forced to step out of your comfort zone.

2.)   Time for a break! Show us where you go for quiet time.

3.)  You know you’re a Mom when…

4.)  Dig out your high school yearbook and share a message a friend wrote that stands out to you.

5.)   Share something you learned embarrassingly late in life.

I've been working a lot in my backyard. We live in a very wooded area and I made a shade garden at the back of the yard where I put my adirondack chairs. Last week the weather was so nice...Highs around 80 and not humid and I loved escaping out there, mosquitoes and all! But this week our typical June weather is back. Humid and over 90!

Thanks for sharing your quiet place. I don't blame you a bit. I'd be out there, too, enjoying the night, the breeze and the quietness.

This sounds so wonderful, I would love a big porch like this to sit out on and read and just enjoy being outside alone for a while. Looks like bliss to me! Now I need to move to the country :) Stopping by from Mama Kat's!

I wish I enjoyed being outside besides during October. I am so picky about the temperature but love to be outside in the fall and just take in all of God's creation. I don't really have a "space" yet. Someday maybe.

What a lovely porch! Is it weird that I'm particularly in love with the coffee cup on the table? And that I'm imagining it spiked with brandy? Good times!

I'm from Minnesota too...I agree there are some moments, depending on the season, that are pure bliss. What part of MN are you from?

I love your quiet space, I miss that about Iowa. Not that there aren't trees and wind here but it doesn't sound the same, feel the same or even smell the same as home.

Looks like a piece of heaven to me! The noise of the city has been getting to me lately, and I'd definitely treasure a nice quiet spot to just 'be'. Enjoy it in good health!

Oh, I LOVE your porch! I always wanted something like that.. a nice, Southern style look. So pleasant and tranquil looking.

My back porch is where I spend my quiet time too! I love summertime because we can sit out even after the kids go to bed. :)

I would love to have a space like that! Right now my spot is on our front steps, but we don't have room for a chair there. :(
