National Harbor For Our Anniversary

We just had our one year anniversary! I can hardly believe it! What a year it's been. We went over a few different ideas of where to go, and what to do. I'm honestly low key, but wanted to go somewhere we hadn't been before. Finally we decided to head to National Harbor.

Every time we drive to my parents, we pass National Harbor. The Capital Wheel is always such a colorful sight to see! Fred always tells me about what a neat little spot it is, especially in the winter with all of the festivities.

Tonight we had dinner at a Thai restaurant. The oysters were fantastic! I was filled to the gills when I was only 1/4 of the way through my dinner. It was a great dinner. As we were sitting there, we knew some storms were rolling in. Since it was just the two of us, we weren't worried, and not in a hurry to go anywhere.

We strolled down to the water in a light drizzle. I had no idea what to expect there, but it was beautiful. There are murals along the wall as you walk to the water. There were statues of classic figured like Marilyn Monroe, the sailor kissing the nurse, and a woman getting groceries outside a market. As you walk along the enter path, there are quotes from Ronald Reagan and others.

We were looking out over the water when the rain really started to come down pretty good. We went into the Peeps store to stay dry. I had no idea there were so many different ways to enjoy Peeps...or to wear them.

When it went back to drizzling, we walked down the pier to the Capital Wheel. The sky was just amazing amazing with the sun setting & the clouds. Because of the storm, I think planes landing had been delayed, but right at the end of the dock you can watch as planes make their approach to Reagan National.

After we walked along the pier, we walked back up through some of the stores. We stopped at a cupcake shop that had some pretty fancy flavors. Their cake displays were so cute, I wanted to take one home to celebrate our first year of marriage. No, we didn't keep part of our Twitter bird cake. lol

Then we went to a candy store. Wow, this candy store, I can't even...when you walk in they give you a sample of whatever they're working on. Then it's just wall to wall candy. Fred decided on some ice cream. I had a caramel. While we were there, I remembered that Buddy wanted to get Harry Potter candy for when he gets together with his sisters to watch one of the movies. He wanted to get them to surprise his sisters. Isn't he a great kid?

Then we went to a game store, and played around in there. I tell you what, it was so nice to take our time down there. I wish it hadn't rained because we probably would've gotten into more of the stores. There was even a Carhartt store there! That seemed so odd to me because here we are in this completely metrosexual area, and we find a Carhartt store. hahahaha It seemed like such a clash of lifestyle apparel.

Our night was topped off with a superb sunset. People were coming out of the woodwork to get photos of it. Fred was so wonderful to let me out, and sat at a stop sign so I could run across the road to grab a couple of shots. I was a smart cookie and grabbed his phone, too because his always takes better photos than mine.

It was a fantastic night to spend with my hubby, and I can't wait to spend another year with this guy!

What spot have you loved spending your anniversary?
