Diary of a Wimpy Kid #Cbias

In just a few short weeks my boys will be heading back to school. I honestly feel like summer just started for us. It’s not like it used to be when I was a stay at home mom. Now the summers zoom by.
Del Monte Fruit Cups
Next week I plan on taking my boys to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days of Summer. Buddy has read every single book in this series. I know you might think, “yah, so what? My kids have read them all, too.” The thing is, Buddy isn’t a strong reader. He’d rather do just about anything else, aside from chores, than read.

When he actually ASKED for more books in the series I about came unglued with happiness. Buddy was actually excited about each new one that released. Obviously when the first movie released, we went and saw it immediately. DOAWK 2 came out while I was away in NYC.
Del Monte
When we go to the movies, we rarely buy any food at the concession because it’s so blazing expensive. I typically have them eat before we go in so that way they’re good and full! lol Usually it’s a candy bar, but since the boys are getting closer to going back to school, I figured I’d get them in the routine of eating a different kind of snack. Hence the Del Monte Fruit Cups!

This was an easy choice to make. During the summer when the boys are home, I get the huge Del Monte cans of fruit so the boys can eat them over the course of a couple of days. Going back to school, it’s much easier to throw these into their lunch boxes or have them sitting in the cupboard for an after school  healthy snack.

My plan next week is to have them eat a couple of snacks before we head to the movies. I love surprises so I’ll get home to two boys with full bellies, tell them we’re going out for a bit and take them to the movie theater! Yes, they’ll love it and I’ll be a happy camper because I’ll have saved boucoup bucks not getting them snacks there!
Dole Fruit Cups
Now the awesome news is Del Monte DOAWK is having a sweepstakes on Facebook, and yes, I’ve entered to win myself! Also, be sure to follow them on Twitter to keep up with all of their promotions and ideas! An easy way to do that in conjunction with the movie is to follow the #Snacks4WimpyKid

Doodle’s drawing of us at the beach
Me: “You know what I like?”
Him: “What?”
Me: “Del Monte cups”

I guess I’ll take the hint and bring some Del Monte fruit cups with us the next time we go to the beach! lol

Do you ever substitute sugary snacks for healthy ones like fruit cups? What suggestions do you have for me to replace ours?

It's such a great series. My son loves them and has both the DIY books too. If your son doesn't already have them, I strongly suggest the DIY Wimpy Kid books, great for creativity, writing, expression, etc. I got the first one for my son with a 4-color pen at the airport right before a flight and he stayed busy the whole trip!

Fruit is really big in our house, my son likes all kinds of fruit and I especially like Del Monte because I can usually find the kind packed in 100% juice. No "light syrup" or fake sweeteners for me, I want all juice.

As far as suggestions go, I say it helps to be a little creative in presentation. I use banana slices to make faces on pancakes, and serve pineapple chunks in a cup with a straw so he can drink the juice. It's easy to make tic-tac-toe X's and O's with apple slices, and I use pretzel rods for the board. I also make those with cheese.

Now, tell me how to make vegetables more palatable for my son, because he will eat just about any fruit but is very anti-vegetable. He will eat raw carrot sticks and cooked green beans. That's it, anything else that is not some kind of potato is not given a chance.

Those are the perfect lunch box snack, and for home use, I do the same thing you do. I buy the big cans!

My daughter loved these books when she was younger. As far as suggestions for serving fruit, sigh, I wish I could get my son to eat more!
