Dead Fall By Nancy Mehl

Dead Fall
by Nancy Mehl
Publisher: Bethany House
Series: The Quantico Files
ISBN: 9780764237645

I was super excited when the author allowed me to be on her team for the second book in her The Quantico Series!! She writes such fascinating characters and twisted stories I couldn't resist. She sent me the book for review.

Summary:

He has a deadly endgame in mind--and he's already chosen each victim . . . including her.

After putting to rest the most personal case of her career, Alex Donovan is ready to move on and focus on her future at the FBI's elite Behavioral Analysis Unit. When the BAU cofounder is discovered dead in his hotel room, the FBI is called in to work on the strangest case they've ever faced. How do you find a killer who murders his victims from a distance?

When it becomes clear that the killer is targeting agents in Alex's unit, they are ordered into lockdown, sheltered in the dorms at Quantico. Alex bunks with controversial agent Kaely Quinn, and as they work together, Alex discovers in Kaely the role model she's never had--despite being warned away.

As Alex questions the type of agent she wants to become, things get personal when the brilliant killer strikes close to home. Now Alex will do anything to find the killer--even at the risk of her own life.

My Review:

Wow! What a great second book in this series!

There were SO many things I loved about Dead Fall! Alex is such a complicated character. Getting to know her in book one helps the reader to understand why she is the way she is. The author is spectacular at creating multi-dementional characters. Add in Kaely Quinn from the Kaely Quinn Profiler series and you've got a recipe for perfection!

Logan reminds me of Noah in the Kaely Quinn series. They both have feelings for the female protagonist, but they're so broken and in need of God, they have to hold themselves back. Logan seems to live on the edge of frustration.

This story... whew! Sheer insanity from the start. There were a couple of times throughout the story, about 3/4 of the way through, when I thought I knew who the evil person was in the story. Then the author threw in twists that took me away from my idea, but in the end I was kind of correct. Mostly. At the end, when the reveal happened, I "knew" it was someone else and was completely wrong. I was actually surprised when my line of thinking actually was true! I may have patted myself on the back.

How an author comes up with these storylines is mind boggling. The ability to write such diabolical characters and follow their line of thinking, plotting, and carrying out plans is an absolute gift!

I absolutely LOVED how the salvation message was presented in this story! The strong faith from Kaely and Logan is important to the development of Alex and her brand new faith. Also, I LOVED how the author talks about Satan being real and active! I'm so thankful she doesn't shy away from truth like that.

I would've liked to have the ending more "involved" with the evil person instead of being told what happened (seemed a bit anticlimactic because I want to see the bad person pay hahaha). The VERY end though... THAT was... wow!
