52 Weeks In The Word By Trillia J. Newbell

52 Weeks in the Word
by Trillia J. Newbell
Publisher: Moody
ISBN: 978-0-8024-2835-6

As a reviewer for Moody Publishers, I reached out to them recently and asked if I could review this companion for reading through the Bible. I wanted to make sure I shared it before the end of the year in case anyone else was looking to read through Scripture this coming year. They sent me the book for review.

Summary:

A joy-filled, thoughtful, and realistic pathway through the entirety of God's Word!

Have you ever been disappointed or frustrated with your inability for consistent Bible study? Reading through the Bible in a year can feel daunting. It can be hard to know how—or where—to start. Perhaps you just need a friend who follows Jesus to help. Trillia Newbell is a trusted Bible teacher and lover of the Scriptures. She describes herself as a "forever student." And she'd like nothing more than for you to join her in the grand and thrilling adventure of growing in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ! Rather than jumping around the Bible, you can jump into this book that will take you through the entirety of the Scriptures in one year!

This book provides:

  • A reading plan—not too big or too small
  • 52 Reflections—one per week
  • Prayer prompts for each Scripture reading
  • Built in rest and catch-up days
  • Space for your own reflection or study
  • Easy instructions so you can begin throughout the year!

52 Weeks in the Word guides you through God's sacred and trusted Word, all while helping you organize your reading and pausing for deeper meditation. The result? Greater knowledge of God, by grace and the power of the Spirit, can lead to wisdom and worship of God. You'll discover treasures—some old to you, some new—help for daily living, hope in times of suffering, and a deep abiding relationship with the God who loves you.

My Review:

I had been wanting to check out 52 Weeks in the Word for the past few months! I saw it on Instagram and thought it would be something that would be terrific to do in 2024! I WANT to read through the Bible, but it's always so daunting to me.

I felt like Trillia met me right where I'm at in the Introduction. She recognized that we each come to a book like this with the best of intentions or curious as to what it holds. She breaks down each day and week so we know what to expect. There's an Estimated Reading Time chart that I found interesting and surprising! 3 John being the shortest and get this... Jeremiah is the longest!

My husband and I are reading through first and second Samuel. When we were reading one of the chapters in 2nd Samuel last week, one of the questions that came to my mind was, "How does the Scripture point to Jesus?" It just didn't make sense to me! Thankfully, my husband came up with a couple of ideas.

Each day in this companion reading one of the questions is, "Where is Jesus in these chapters?" and "Where do you see the gospel?" I think those are exactly the reminders I need each time I read the daily Scripture. At the end of each week, there's a Reflection to read on the "rest" day.

As for the visual appeal of the companion, I have to tell you how much I love the muted colors. All of the earth tones are definitely my preference. Each week has a new color and an illustration to go along with it. At the end of the book is a reading plan that goes along with the 52 weeks and a few pages where you can take extra notes.

I'm looking forward to diving in January 1st! Do YOU want to join me in the journey? Grab a copy (link above, and I don't get anything if you get one) and we can do it together!
