Children aren’t the only ones who can disappear.

Driven by ongoing grief and relentless dreams, Holden Kelly is determined to track down the child his brother Gage abducted eight years earlier. The kidnapping that saved Matthew Gibson’s life had cost Gage his. Proving his brother hadn’t sacrificed his life for nothing might be the only way Holden can start fully living his again. And it could be the last chance he has to find his way back to the wife he loves but who is also mired in grief and a crisis of faith.

Mikayla Grant has nightmares of her own. A road trip with private investigator Jax Rodriguez—a man she is drawn to even though his primary goal seems to be to drive her crazy—can’t be the way to heal from a terrible loss. Can it?

As Holden, Mikayla, and Jax follow the missing child’s trail from Toronto to Chicago, their mission is not as secret as they thought. Someone knows they are coming and will stop at nothing to prevent them from finding Matthew.

And to make sure that no one ever hears from the three of them again.

My Review:

Ah, well, as is common with me, I've read these books out of order. I really enjoy Sara's writing and I was like, "hey, she has a new book, I'm reading it," without paying attention to the fact that Driven was part of a series. hahaha Wow!

Thankfully I had book 1 on audiobook and listened to that this past week. Not enough time to read Guarded unfortunately, but I'll be buying the Kindle version of it. So, for this review I had to spring back to book 3. I'd already read about 3 chapters before I realized I was reading out of order. HA!

Anyhow, this book was amazing! There are so many emotional highs and lows; blood pressure raising moments; and faith permeating the entire story.

Let's talk about the characters... and there are quite a few. Holden and Chris have a super rough go at the beginning of the story. When Nicole and Daniel bring them over for dinner along with Nicole's sister Mikayla and a friend of Daniel's, Jax, the timing couldn't have been more perfect! Jax cracks me up with how he gets under Mikayla's skin. Mikayla on the other hand chooses to act like Jax doesn't exist. Nicole and Daniel have been through SO much and their faith is the glue that holds them together along with their sweet love.

Of course, there's also Natalya. She's their nemesis, yet, not. One of the things I like best about Natalya is that she's the one who causes us to think about "what would you do?" I also appreciate how she stays true to the task even as she sees everything she's worked for unraveling in front of her.

Once again, Sara's story brings to light the abuse of children and how hard it is to keep them safe, even through legal channels. What choices do we have to keep them safe? Is it better to follow the legal route that could have the child(ren) lose their life or kidnap them and put them in homes where they are loved? As we learn in this story, the loving home doesn't always turn out the way Natalya hoped.

I loved how Jax was able to "read" Mikayla so well. Actually frighteningly well. lol I'm not sure I'd want to date a PI or have one interested in me who was so attuned to me. It's exactly what Mikayla needs, although she doesn't see it. But what I appreciate in this storyline is that she realizes he's not a Christian and because of her faith, it's a non-negotiable.

There's a very swoon worthy moment at the end of the story... well, actually a couple. I don't want to give anything away, but when you read it you'll understand why women used to swoon. HA! I have to admit, when I finished the book, well, even before I'd finished it, I was wishing there'd have been a story about Jax and his missing brother. Imagine my utter delight to swipe after reading the end of the book that there's a book 4!!! Also, don't miss the author's notes at the end. I don't usually read them, but I really was drawn to Sara's. The discussion questions are also thought provoking!
