I was happy to find out I was on Jody's launch team for book two. I gave book one 5 stars and book two was a "must have"! She sent me the book for review!

Summary:

Facing death takes courage. Facing life takes even more.

In the last stages of a genetic disease, Ellen Creighton has decided to live out her remaining days at the estate of her longtime friend Harrison Burlington. Though he's never allowed himself to get serious in a relationship due to his paralysis, Harrison cares deeply for Ellen and is desperately trying to save her life by finding the holy water that is believed to heal any disease--the same substance Ellen suspects is responsible for the deaths of her father and sister.

But Harrison is not the only one seeking the holy water. Dangerous criminals are mere steps behind, and Ellen soon learns they will go to any lengths to get the powerful drug--including sending her back into the past to locate it for them.

Bestselling and award-winning author Jody Hedlund plunges you into the swiftly flowing river of history in this second breathtaking Waters of Time story.

My Review:

First, let's talk about the cover. Isn't it gorgeous?!

Second, my review. I enjoyed the second book, Never Leave Me, in this time travel story! I wasn't sure if they'd actually time travel because as I got more and more into the book, Ellen and Harrison really didn't do more than talk about it. Thankfully, as I got further into the story they did! That was the huge draw for me with book one and I figured it would follow suit in book two.

Of course, a lot of the same elements are in book two as in book one. Ellen is still sick with her genetic disease and is dying. I think because she spent so much time away from the family and as a missionary, she's very naive to so many things. Her relationship with Harrison has always been incredibly sweet, but in book two he's finding it hard to block his thoughts and emotions towards her.

It made sense as they went through the story to hold each other at bay because their not-so-great communication was driving me to insanity. Just when I thought one or the other might bear their soul... nope. (imagine me shaking my fist at the book) At several points in the story, you could definitely feel the attraction between the two of them.

The race to find more of the holy water was the part of the story that held everything together. They had to get more for a variety of reasons, and that leads them both back to 1382. To say that they fall on hard times is putting it mildly. It'll have you turning page after page to get all of the answers!

I do wish that more of Ellen's or Harrison's prayers had been in the form of prayer to God as opposed to the Serenity Prayer. Nothing wrong with that prayer, but I didn't quite feel the reliance on God answering them, only to hoping the Serenity Prayer "worked".

I am definitely hopeful there will be a book three! The bad guy is still at large and he needs to be apprehended!
