Fields of Grace by Kim Vogel Sawyer & GIVEAWAY

Fields of Grace
ISBN: 978-0-7642-0508-8
Format: Paperback
Publication date: Sep. 09 Division: Bethany House

First I'd like to thank Jim at Bethany House Publisher for my review copy of Kim's book Fields of Grace.

I have been trying something new with the books I receive to review. I'm not reading what the book is about on the back cover. So far it's been an enjoyable adventure. I did this with Fields of Grace and wasn't disappointed!

I know very little about the Mennonite faith, but learned about the old faith, to a degree, that was brought over from Russia. It seems very similar to the Amish faith.

Reinhardt and Lillian Vogt are heading to America with their 3 boys and Reinhardt's adopted brother, Eli. They are leaving to protect Henrik from joining the war. The trip over is costly and lives are lost.

Eli and Lillian enter into an agreement to make sure their lives start off on the right foot here in this new land. They head to Kansas ready to start a new life and make what's left of their fractured lives work.

I found this story compelling. It's a historical novel, but a genre I haven't read before. I found the way Eli chose to honor Reinhardt and Lillian was a beautiful example of love. He also loves the boys, as much as he can without putting his heart too much on the line.

Lillian, for her part, makes the most of living in a sod house and living with her broken heart along with her oldest son's frustration. She is grieving her loss and trying to figure out what her new life holds for her and her boys.

How they manage to balance their lives the way they do is amazing to me. I never would've survived living in those times. The plains they live on with the weather elements they had to deal with is a vital part of this story. Lillian & Eli's future lives depend on the harvest that is to come.

To win this book, leave me any kind of comment. I'm not very "creative" today. :o) Leave your email address so that you can be contacted. Open to US residents only, 18 yrs old and older. Giveaway will end October 16, 10pm (CST).

I don't think I'd do without an air conditioner. Living on a farm without 'conveniences,' I could handle the rest. Please enter me.
Thanks.

I never read the back of books anymore. I remember once that the back of the book gave away so much information. One of the characters died it revealed but it didn't happen until the last 3rd of the book. I was very disappointed.
I enjoy Kim's books so thanks for the opportunity to win.

I grew up in North Carolina without a lot of conveniences. I think I would have a harder time now. I am sure God would get me through it. I would love to win this book. Thank you. Ro agreatdayin2003@yahoo.com

I tell people on my blog that I rarely read the book blurbs, especially if it's an author I already love. I love being totally surprised in the story line without knowing anything before I read it!!

Blessings

Hi
My 17 year old daughter wants to be a writer. She decided this after having started to read these types of Amish/Mennonite books about 2 years ago. She will begin the process of becoming a writer once she graduates this year. I would love to win this book to give to her for her "inspiring" collection.
Thanks for doing this contest!

I have not read one of Kim's books yet. Even though I have one on my shelf waiting to read. This one looks really good. I too have always been impressed with how simple the Mennonites live and how easy they make it seem. We do take for granted the everyday items that they tend to go without. Carmen, I agree about the A/C!

Sandee, you are absolutely right, but I do enjoy my A/C on those hot days. :)

Wendy, I am really enjoying not reading the backs of book. How I went so long not doing that is beyond me. I had the same thing happen to me one time with reading too much on the back.

Ro, there are a lot of conveniences I think many of us wonder how we ever lived without!

Michelle, I have really enjoyed not reading the back of my books.

lshultz, I'll have to look into more of her books. I really thought this was a sweet book.

Daisy, I love Bethany House, too. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Kim's other books.

Dianne, that's so awesome about your daughter writing. I do my drawings by a program called Top Hat. I still feel terrible since only one person can win and everyone is so wonderful to leave comments for the book. :)

Sara, thanks for visiting my blog. Crissy did a wonderful job designing it! How lucky you were to have met Kim! So cool!

Glennda, I would actually love to live that way for a day or more. I know it would help me appreciate everything I take for granted!

Kathy, thanks for stopping by. I wish everyone could win! I hate the guilt I feel having only one winner. :(

Cecelia, thanks for dropping by.

Jo, I know I would have a hard time living without certain things, like a fridge and my car.

Jody, thanks for dropping by to enter.

Jane, thanks for posting my giveaway again. :)

Jennifer, it was a sweet book.

Karen, can't wait to read more of her books.

Annette, it is good. :)

Mark, nice to have a guy drop by.

Deborah, come to think of it, I might have another one of her books on my TBR shelf that's packed!

Emma, Holly, Pixie, wolfbayou, and Casey you're entered!

Danielle, I'm with you about CF!

Thanks to everyone who has stopped in and left a comment! I really do appreciate everyone's time they spend here.
