I'm SUCH a huge fan of Jaime Jo Wright's books. You'll find all kinds of reviews of her books on my blog. If you're like me, and a bit cautious to read her books, I get it! I remember how nervous I was before I read my first one. But you only need one gateway book of hers to become addicted to her writing! Trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong. She sent me her book for review.

Summary:

It promises beauty but steals life instead. Will the ghosts of Barlowe Theater entomb them all?

Barlowe Theater stole the life of Greta Mercy's eldest brother during its construction. Now in 1915, the completed theater appears every bit as deadly. When Greta's younger brother goes missing after breaking into the building, Greta engages the assistance of a local police officer to help her unveil the already ghostly secrets of the theater. But when help comes from an unlikely source, Greta decides that to save her family she must uncover the evil that haunts the theater and put its threat to rest.

Decades later, Kit Boyd's best friend vanishes during a ghost walk at the Barlowe Theater, and old stories of mysterious disappearances and ghoulish happenings are revived. Then television ghost-hunting host and skeptic Evan Fisher joins Kit in the quest to identify the truth behind the theater's history. Kit reluctantly agrees to work with him in hopes of finding her missing friend. As the theater's curse unravels Kit's life, she is determined to put an end to the evil that has marked the theater and their hometown for the last century.

My Review:

Well, she's done it again! Jaime Jo Wright has sucked me into her world of suspense and speculation with The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater! WHAT is going on at Barlowe Theater? Crazy things are happening... or are they?

We meet Greta and her friends at the Theater in 1915 when a baby falls from one of the boxes! Of course, all chaos ensues. We start to get to know Greta, her brothers, and their life situation - which isn't a good one even IF it's just Kipper's Grove, WI! We also get to know her more elite friends Eleanor and Oscar. Trust me, you'll come to love them as much as I did!

In the current day we get to know Kit and her friends... not surprisingly, at Barlowe Theater! Another disappearance happens and once more there's a lot of chaos! What in the world is going on? Evan is in town with a crew from a ghost hunting tv show and he plans on debunking his co-star, Heather. Except, she's hearing voices and seeing visions!

Y'all, Jaime Jo is the queen of keeping us guessing! You know how it goes. You start off switching between timelines and it's all fine and dandy until things start to ramp up and she CUTS you off at the end of the chapter, right when something is about to happen, and picks up in the other timeline! GAH! I was shaking my fist at her so many times. hahahaha It just made me read faster. There were moments where I "almost" flipped to the next timeline JUST to find out what was going to happen, but I forced myself to go through the process of diving back into the other time period.

And just like in Scooby Do, I had zero idea who was involved in the missing kids, the mysterious deaths, and the odd happenings in 1915. In the current time, I was as surprised as Kit was! I'm sure if someone would've watched me reading towards the end they would've caught me with my jaw dropped.

If you want a heap of creepiness that factors in faith for an edge of your seat read, this one will fill that need! It's just an overall fantastic read!
