As a HUGE fan of Connilyn Cossette, as soon as I finish one of her books, I'm 100% ready for another one! I was incredibly excited to read Voice of the Ancient as soon as I heard about it. Bethany House sent me the book for review.

Summary:

As the eldest son of a Levite and a Philistine, Avidan is torn between his duty to his family legacy and the desire for something more. After an enemy attack strikes close to home, he takes the opportunity to fight with his cousins for the newly crowned King Saul. But when one of the cousins goes missing during the battle, Avidan refuses to leave him behind.

Keziah is the daughter of one of the most powerful clan chiefs in the territory of Manasseh. On the brink of a forced marriage to a loathsome man decades older than her, she has no choice but to run, hoping to find sanctuary with her mother's family.

United during their journeys and battling to survive the dangers that surround them, Avidan and Keziah make a pact to travel together. As challenges pile up, they must not only rely on each other to stay alive but also learn to trust the true and eternal King of Israel to guide their every step.

My Review:

I absolutely adore the stories this author sets in Old Testament times. She has such a gift of bringing that historical time to life in such a new way.

This time we get to know Avidan and his cousins who were in Between the Wild Branches! Voice of the Ancient is set during 1 Samuel when Saul becomes king. Sometimes, we get into our heads what we think we want and what we think is best and try to go our own way. This is what leads Avi away from his Levitical future to the battleground with his cousins. He wants to do more for the Lord, and he believes this is it!

At the same time, Keziah has been forced into a marriage with an evil man, but she escapes with only her life and horse. Keziah & Avi's paths cross at just the right time, and they journey together with each of their purposes in mind. The battlefield wasn't at all what Avidan had expected and has decided to go home with his tail between his legs. Unfortunately, his young cousin is missing and the search is on.

It was incredible watching Avi grow and learn about how the Lord had gifted him as he traveled with Keziah. For Keziah to finally know that she was finally seen and loved just for who she was melted my heart.

I'm so excited for the journey readers will be taking on The King's Men series!

Although she and her husband have lived all over the country in their twenty-five-plus years of marriage, they currently call a little town south of Dallas, Texas, their home.
