Dreamworks Madagascar Live! With the Boys

IMG_5829 I love surprises. So much so that even the little things I love to surprise them with! Well, the first weekend of April I was able to surprise the boys with a trip to Minneapolis. We were headed to the Orpheum Theater to see Madagascar Live!

The boys both enjoyed the movies and they watch the Penguins on tv. I also wanted the boys to enjoy live theater. We all need a little culture in our lives, don’t you think?

Madagascar Live! follows the story line of the movie version of Madagascar. Marty wants to enjoy the wild and goes in search of it. Of course he ends up dragging his friends Alex, Melman, and Gloria.

We got to the Orpheum Theater pretty early so Doodle got a little tattoo since it was free.

We grabbed our seats, which were super close to the front. The employees told us we could take photos but had to have the flash off. No problem there. The lights went down and the show began.IMG_5827

I have to say, the music was great and we laughed a lot! They have incorporated music and dancing made the show and made it a fun family event. Everyone at the performance really enjoyed themselves. The theater was totally packed and it was a Sunday afternoon!

I think the part the boys and I enjoyed the most was King Julien. He was wild and crazy and played very well by the actor. The hijinks of Penguins had us giggling.

If you are looking for a family event to attend, to introduce your kids to live theater, this would be the perfect place to start. Make sure you check out the Madagascar Live! official site to find activities online and see on the Map if they’ll be in your neck of the woods.

In case you have little ones there’s a very brief moment when the gang is on the island and it’s nighttime. Their eyes glow green and if memory serves me some growling. I didn’t hear any toddlers screaming and my boys were just fine with it.IMG_5838IMG_5839IMG_5833

At the end of the show, they tried to get the kids (and adults) to “Move It” with them, but very few people stood up. It’s so funny because when I lived in Seattle, we were always up out of our seats at performances that encouraged us to participate. They’re a bit more reserved here in MN. Don’t take it personal!

We were given tickets to attend the show but weren’t compensated in any way. This post and opinions are mine and not influenced at all by the company.
