About the Book:

You matter more than you know. If you've ever wondered if you're pretty enough, clever enough or funny enough to matter, then meet Ollie. Like all the Too Smalls of Stiltsville, he desperately wants to fit in.

Together they gather each evening to see who is chosen to receive a set of stilts. Much to his surprise, Ollie is picked! Then a stumble, a tumble, and he is left alone again. In the moment he feels the lowest, Ollie discovers the unconditional love of Jesus and understands that he mattered all along.

My Review:

This was a wonderful book that I enjoyed reading to my 6 yr old son. The illustrations by Maria Monescillo are fun and colorful. The story starts off about describing the people in Stiltsville. They are getting ready to gather to see who will be given a set of stilts.

These stilts represent that lofty feeling a person can have if they feel like they're better than the others "below" them. This time Ollie is the one who is chosen, CHOSEN to have a set of stilts. You know what it's like to be chosen for the cool team, to hang with the cool kids! What could be better? Wouldn't you want to be picked?

But what happens to Ollie once he's reached the cool level? Is this "moving up the ladder" what he thought it would be? Does he matter any more now than he did before? His time of rising above the smalls doesn't last long. As we know, what goes up, must come down.

Thankfully, there is One there who loves him no matter if Ollie is a tall or a small. He comes to Ollie and shares with him what's important.

I think it's so important for children to learn at an early age that who they are on the inside is what matters most. That they are loved by the Lord is a vital part in who their identity should be found in.

This would make a beautiful gift to a child, especially if that child is struggling with their identity, not being part of the "in" crowd, or anything else that might be bringing them down.

My Thanks:
