Do You Lean?

"Lean to the left, Lean to the right; Stand up, Sit down; Fight fight fight"

How much have you loved watching these Olympics? I've been rivited to the tv, especially from 12-3...am. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. When the bobsledders are going around those hairpin turns going who knows how many "G"s don't you find yourself leaning as though you're turning with them? I am so glad that I watch these games on my own and not with a group.

Picture this: We're all sitting around the tv cheering Apolo Ohno as he speed skates his heart out. He's skating, skating, leaning to the left like he's laying on the ice. The I realize everyone is looking at me because I'm nearly laying on my neighbor's lap. Somehow I feel as though I'm skating with him, Apolo not my neighbor. Can you imagine how mortifying this would be?

Does anyone else do this? I can not be the only one. Isn't it a bit natural? Those cameras zip around the corners with the athletes and do it so fast it feels as though we're traveling with them. As the speed skaters are whipping along right arm swaying back and forth, back and forth, I seriously catch myself swaying. Like all of a sudden my mind notices my body is swaying. When someone wipes out, I jerk as though coming out of a trance. It's such a crazy thing.

Is this a phenomenon? If I Google it, will I find that there's a "leaning" condition?

Can I plop in a rant here while I'm at it? Has anyone noticed the Americans never sing the National Anthem? If any have, I've missed it. They take their hats of and stare at the flag as it's raised to honor the gold medal winner. When the US wins the gold medal they stand there mute. Am I that old that this disappoints me? Where's our national pride? Have you seen the Canadians? They sing with so much spirit, "O! Canada". Us, staring at the flag.

I think there should be a requirement, at least some honor, pride and dignity in our countrymen who are representing us to sing if we win gold. Shouldn't they know the words anyhow? Maybe the US Olympic Committee can hire someone to teach them the words and every morning during the Olympics, they get together for a rousing rendition of The Star Spangle Banner by Francis Scott Key:

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Am I off here? Is my thinking wrong. Am I just out dated? Just checkin'.

*Shelly, why is my cup 1/2 empty? Am I a negative Nelly? Why can't I see the good in people? You're probably right and they are overcome with emotion. Thanks for that insight!

Hey Mimi, I've never commented on your blog, although I read it from time to time! I have seen American's sing the nat'l anthem, although at the moment I can't recall who. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and believe that they are so overcome by emotion that they CAN'T sing. I think maybe I'd be that way, standing there watching my American flag raise while I stood atop a podium hearing my country's song, I think if I did anything it would be sob. Go USA!

A motivating discussion is definitely worth
comment. I think that you ought to write more about this topic, it might
not be a taboo matter but typically people don't speak
about such topics. To the next! Kind regards!!
